Change Filters

If you use your air conditioner constantly, most days all day, it is a good idea to change the filter every month or so. If your unit has been in storage for months, it is also wise to change the filter as it may have accumulated dust during that time.
A clean, new filter not only keeps your system running smoothly, it also provides your home with better indoor air quality.

Clean Condensation Lines

When your air conditioner blows cool air, condensation will form on the inside, and sometimes the outside, of the unit. Because this fluid needs somewhere to drain, air conditioners are made with tubes that carry condensation and other liquids.
However, these tubes can become clogged, causing condensation to build up instead of draining, leading to major malfunctions and possibly even a messy spill in your home.

Clean Outer Unit

If you leave your air conditioner on during the off season, unless it is covered, it will be exposed to the elements and collect debris. Make sure that this debris does not clog its internal mechanisms by using a hose to gently spray the external coils.
If there is excessive buildup of dirt, you can visit a hardware store to purchase a commercial air conditioner cleaner.

Check Ducts

Just like your air conditioning unit, your home’s air ducts need to be cleaned for indoor air quality. Air ducts are also known to leak. If you see any disconnected connections or small holes, seal them with duct tape. This will improve the overall efficiency of your HVAC system and help you reduce your cooling costs.
